Mr. Minamoto and Mr. Omura not only know the perfect places to take photographs, but they also run up and down the mountains to photograph both the first group and the last group, making sure that everyone is photographed. It is quite amazing to watch! Because they have worked with our school and other schools in Ikeda City for so many years, they know most of the staff at the accommodations, the activities we will be doing, and the places we will visit. They are a treasure trove of information, and they help make sure everything goes quickly, safely, and smoothly.Once the photographs of this trip have been processed, you will receive a QR code to scan to see and order photos. We’re sure that you find many photos that you like.

One of the things I really love about Mori no Kuni is how it gives the students opportunities to challenge themselves in ways they might not otherwise experience. Here, some of the girls are taking on the Sasuke-style obstacles, climbing, swinging, and testing their strength and coordination. They are pushing themselves beyond their usual comfort zones, and when they finally make it through an obstacle, their faces light up with joy! It’s wonderful to see them encouraging one another, celebrating their successes, and discovering what they are capable of. Sometimes, the biggest achievement isn’t completing an obstacle—it’s having the courage to give it a try! I really like how this park allows students to challenge themselves in ways they otherwise may not. Here, the ladies are getting tough hands by working on the Sasuke like obstacles. They are all cheering with joy when they complete it.

And judging by the energy in the room, I think we have one small problem… The students are now completely full of energy and are definitely not going to be ready for bed at 9:30!
After a refreshing bath and a great dinner, we gathered for our second big event of the day—the evening campfire! We began with a recreation of the lighting of the campfire, with our beloved Vice Principal, Mr. Matsumoto, doing the honors. Then Ms. Nagao and Mr. Hashimoto got everyone involved in a fun Lion vs. Hippopotamus activity. After that, the performances began! Class 2 started with a beautiful song, accompanied on the piano by Ms. Sai. They then changed the mood completely with a scary story! Class 1 followed with several hilarious manzai skits. The class then split into two groups, with the girls performing a dance followed by a dance from the boys. Class 2 returned to the stage with a combination of singing and dancing, followed by a song that the entire sixth grade sang together. Finally, it was Class 4’s turn. They performed Moju Gari, a rhythm game that many Japanese students know well. A word is called out, and everyone has to quickly form groups according to the number of letters in the word—all while keeping to the familiar rhythm! They then finished with a beautiful song accompanied by Mr. Hashimoto’s warm guitar. And then came the grand finale: Mr. Ohino singing with the entire sixth grade! What an amazing evening!

We are now having lunch at the summit! After a pretty hard climb, the beautiful weather made the journey a little easier. We left around 8:00 AM and finally reached the summit just before noon. There were points when many students wanted to give up, but after some well-timed breaks, everyone made it to the top safely. Just as we reached the summit, we were greeted by beautiful sunshine! The warm sun, incredible views, and a delicious lunch put a smile on everyone’s face after such a long and difficult climb. They did it!

Some of the students seem a little nervous, but our guides are leading us at a very comfortable pace. Let’s go! Unfortunately, we will not have internet coverage along the trail, so there will be no updates during the climb. I know this is the time when many of you will be most eager to hear how everyone is doing, but I won’t be able to send the next update until we reach the summit. Wish us luck!

Good morning! After a quiet night with the students behaving extremely well, we have woken to have perfect conditions for our hike. Today is the main event—the climb up Mt. Daisen, whose summit, Mt. Daisen, is 1,709 meters above sea level. Along with 10 teachers, two veteran photographers, and a nurse, we also have the expert guidance of two local guides to take us up Mt. Daisen. They will be setting a comfortable pace so that we can all make it to the summit safely. Wish us luck!

This evening, Mr. Ikeda, our mountain guide, gave us some important information about tomorrow’s hike up Mt. Daisen. The hike will take approximately five hours. The trail starts off gradually, but it becomes increasingly challenging as we climb higher. Mr. Ikeda gave the students some encouraging advice: “If you lack confidence, come to the front.” “If you have confidence, let’s cheer your classmates on.” He also reminded the students about what to wear. “Wear clothing that makes you feel a little chilly. You will warm up as you hike, and you will be comfortable.” He also asked everyone to bring a rain jacket for the summit, which can help keep them warm if it is cold or windy. After the meeting, the students had a short question-and-answer session. They asked some great questions, and Mr. Ikeda answered each one confidently, helping the students feel more confident about tomorrow’s hike. Next, the hotel staff gave us instructions about preparing our futons. The students learned how to set up their bedding with the sheets, pillow, and comforter. Finally, Ms. Nagao went over the preparations for tomorrow. She reminded everyone what to bring on the hike, to write their names on their water bottles, what time they will wake up, and what they need to do tonight before going to bed. Everyone is now getting ready for tomorrow’s big adventure!
