After a long day in Hiroshima, we finally arrived at Umenoya Hotel in Yamaguchi(Yamaguchi City in Yamaguchi Prefecture). We could only enjoy the views of the prefecture from the bus and tomorrow will be our first opportunity to explore.
When we arrived at the hotel, we had an arrival ceremony with representatives making speeches and greeting.
We will check into our rooms and get ready for dinner.

　待ちに待った夕食です。
全員元気にしっかりと食べています。
この後は、入浴とお買い物タイムとお楽しみが続きます。

　宿に到着しました。
バスの中では疲れて寝る子、元気に喋る子、音楽をかけて歌う子など、それぞれに過ごしていました。
　入館式では、ホテルの人からの話をきき、いよいよ部屋へと行きます。
　
　お腹もすいてきました。6時半から夕食です。

Today there are so many schools in Hiroshima from all over the country. I am so happy to see that our students are so well behaved - walking together, listening to the guides, and not complaining in this 36 degree heat. Please tell your children that they did so well when they get home.

At this world heritage site the two most famous points are the Atomic Dome and the Peace Museum. We were surprised to find that there are 50 different memorials to Peace dotted around the park.
We were very fortunate to have volunteer guides to teach us about the important sites. Thank you so much to all the wonderful volunteers.

　資料館見学の後は、平和記念公園内の散策です。
　グループに分かれて１グループに一人ガイドボランティアの方がついてくださいます。
　公園内の様々な碑や鐘など、説明しながら周ってくださいました。
　自分たちで周っていたら気づかない視点がたくさんあり、大変勉強になりました。
　
　暑くて、かなりバテていますが、体調不良の子どもはいません。
　ガイドボランティアの方にお礼をし、広島におわかれをして、山口へ！

　バスに乗って、宿に向かっています。

　昼食を食べて、原爆ドーム前で記念写真を撮り、平和記念資料館の見学に行きました。
　中では、原爆の恐ろしさを伝える、亡くなった方々や被爆した人々の様子や写真などの多くの資料が展示されていました。
　子どもたちは、様々な資料の前で立ち止まり、メモをしたり、じっくりと眺めたりしながら、グループで周りました。
　いつもの元気な様子とは違う、真剣に目の前の展示内容を受け止めている表情が見受けられました。

After a very nice lunch by Umenoya, we are now visiting the museum for an hour. There were many powerful displays and exhibits explaining the immediate and long term affects of the atomic bomb. We are so surprised to see the museum completely full of visitors from around the world. It is the first time for us to see so many people here. It is good for everyone to know the devastation that the Atomic Bomb brings.
The powerful exhibit allowed us to see the horrors of war hand drawn pictures of from the survivors were shocking and heartbreaking. One hour wasn’t enough, but it was an important experience for all of the students.

　

　平和記念公園に到着し、原爆の子の像の前で平和を祈る式を行いました。
　黙祷、平和宣言をして、平和への思いを込めて折り鶴を歌いました。
　晴天で、とても汗ばむ陽気です。
慰霊碑前でクラス写真を撮り、講話を聴きました。
　被曝体験証言者の方の話は、体験をわかりやすく話していただき、平和な世界をつくっていかないといけないという強い思いを持てるお話でした。
　このお話を胸にしっかりと刻み、この後、平和記念資料館での見学をしていきます。

We heard a lecture from an 93 year old Atomic Bomb survivor, Ms Kono Kiyomi. She spoke about her amazing stories of when she was a junior high school student. She shared her heartbreaking story of survival after the atomic bombing. It has been 79 years since the bombing of Hiroshima so there are fewer and fewer survivors left to share their story so this is an extraordinary experience for all the students.

After a very long day of travel, we are finally at the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima. Our first stop is at the Children’s Peace Monument in which we will sing a song and give a prayer for peace.

　予定通り広島駅に着き、バスに乗り換えて、広島平和記念公園に向かっています。
　バス乗り場には、かわいいキティちゃんバージョンのバスもありました。
　曇り空で大阪より少し涼しく感じます。

We are now on our Shinkansen heading for Hiroshima, it looks like it we will be going to be a hot 3 days in Hiroshima and Yamaguchi. The students seem really relaxed and are enjoying the train ride as they read books, play cards, and chat the train ride away.

　いつもよりもかなり早い集合でしたが、集まった子どもたちは、元気いっぱい、テンションも高く、旅行を楽しみにしている様子でした。
　出発式では、司会の子どもから広島で平和について学んできて、それを伝えたい、という頼もしい言葉も聞かれました。

　学校からバスに乗り新大阪に到着し、予定通りの新幹線で、広島に向け出発しました。
　新幹線の中でも元気いっぱい。早速家から持参したおにぎりなどを食べています。
　トランプなどをして遊んでいる子もたくさんいます。
　バス酔いもなく、全員元気にしています。
　
　早朝にもかかわらず、たくさんのお見送りありがとうございます。
　
　普段の教室では学べないことをたくさん学んで、お土産話を持って帰りますので、楽しみにしていてください。

　５年生は、二学期の図工で、「船をつくろう」という船を作る学習活動をしています。
　一人ひとりの小さな船ではなく、グループで協力して作る大きな船です！　ペットボトルや牛乳パックをたくさん集めて、組み立てて、壊れないようにテープや紐で固定していきます。
　今日は、作った船を実際に浮かべる日です。水着に着替えて、それぞれが作った船をプールサイドに運んできました。どの船も浮かぶように様々な工夫がされていました。

　体操をして注意事項を聞いてから、さぁ、船をプールに入れます。一人ずつ順番に船の上に乗って、オールを使ってこいだりもしました。
　途中で部品がはずれてしまうグループもありましたが、どのグループも無事に船は浮かびました！
　自分たちで考えて工夫して作った船に、乗って浮かんだ時の気持ちは、どうだったでしょうか。
　プールからは子どもたちの笑顔と歓声が溢れていました。見ている先生たちも笑顔で嬉しそうでした。
　

　６日金曜日は、プールの授業が最後の日でした。
　この日は、2年生、4年生、6年生が入りました。
　この日も気温は30度超え、どの学年も最後のプールを気持ちよさそうに楽しんでいました。
　夏休みの水泳指導の成果も見られ、ずいぶんと泳力がついている子が多かったです。
　
　小学校生活最後のプールで、6年生は、じゃんけん列車などをして、楽しむ水泳を
満喫していました。

　今週からは9月が始まり、通常授業での一週間が終わりました。
　学習園では、3年生が秋の虫探しをしていました。タブレットの撮影機能を使って、とんでいるトンボを撮ろうとがんばっていました。
　算数教室では、4年生のアルパカコースの子どもたちが今日の課題に向き合い、熱心に取り組んでいました。
　5年生は、英語の授業で、can を使った文を学習し、できることについて聞き合っていました。
　6年生は、来週からの修学旅行に向けて、千羽鶴を作成したり、説明を聞いたりしていました。いよいよ出発まで後少しです。

　学校の中は、掲示委員会が秋らしい掲示板に仕上げてくれています。
　たんぽぽ学級の子どもからは、9月のカレンダーが届きました。秋の風物詩がステキに作られています。早速飾りました。

　まだまだ残暑厳しい中ですが、池小っ子たちは、元気に一週間がんばりました！
